Studio Dress Code

Dance is a disciplined art form and must be respected as such with proper attire. Dress code is necessary for all dancers under the age of 19. Leotard and tights must be worn to every class. If you have shoes from a previous year, you may use them to begin the season, but will need the correct shoe style & color before pictures and performances.

Why do dance studios have a dress code ? Your child can't play soccer without a uniform - they shouldn't dance without one either. We have attached a Dance Teacher Magazine article, titled "Know the Code" for further information.

The Dance Dynamics Dress Code:

Hair - VERY neat bun, braid or headscarf with no “wispies.” Students with short hair must have the hair secure & neat off the face. This is imperative to aid in the teaching of spotting techniques.

We recommend that you purchase all dance shoes from a dance supply store as the quality is much better. Please note: ballet shoes with a cardboard sole or satin slippers are not permitted

Kiddie Combination Classes:

COMBO 1 OR COMBO 2 Girls: Pink leather ballet shoes (bloch or Capezio) & White Tap Shoes. Please put white ¼ inch elastic through the loops & sew together (this makes the shoes easy to slip on and off).
COMBO 3 Girls: Pink leather ballet shoes (Bloch or Capezio) & Tan Mary Jane Style velcro Tap shoes.
Plain leotard in Black, Ballet Pink, light purple with/without skirt & white, ballet pink or suntan tights.
Boys: Black Sweatpants or Shorts, fitted white T-shirt, white socks, boys black Tap shoes and Black leather Ballet shoes.

Ballet Classes:

Pink leather Ballet Shoes (bloch or Capezio), prefer split sole - fit snug to the foot with no extra space in the toes. Bloch or Capezio brand strongly recommended
Plain Black, Ballet Pink, Light purple or Red Leotard and Ballet Pink Tights. A Skirt is recommended. No Biker Shorts or Dance Pants.

Primary Split Classes (ages 6-7):

Black Leather Ballet Slippers & Tan flat buckle or velcro Tap Shoes

Plain black leotard and black, ballet pink or suntan tights. No Dance Pants. Black biker Shorts are permitted.

Please note: Ballet "satin slippers" are not permitted for class as they are too slippery. Ballet shoes should be leather and purchased from a Dance Supply store or website. Shoes from a department store are not acceptable.

Jazz, Tap & Theater Dance Classes (ages 8 & up):

Jazz Shoes: Black split sole tie jazz shoes
Tap Shoes: Tan “Dolly” style Tap Shoes
Theater Dance shoes: Tan charater shoe and Dolly Tap shoe.
Plain black leotard and black, ballet pink or suntan tights. Black biker Shorts or leggings are acceptable. Dance pants must fit properly with the correct length and fitted at the knee.

Acrobatics Classes:

Tan ½ soles or barefoot.
Plain black, red or purple leotard and stirrup tights. Black biker Shorts are acceptable. NO DANCE PANTS!

Lyrical Classes:

Shoes TBA
Plain black leotard and stirrup tights. Black biker Shorts or leggings are acceptable. Dance pants must fit properly - correct length, fitted at the knee.

Hip Hop or CheerDance Classes:

Hip Hop Class: Black Low Top Jazz Sneakers.
CheerDance Class: White Zephz Cheer Sneakers
Please note: although they are called sneakers, dance shoes should never be worn outside, it will ruin the soles and damage the dance floors.
Plain black leotard & black, suntan or ballet pink tights. Dance Pants should be worn. Dance pants must fit properly with the correct length and fitted at the knee.

COMPETITIVE ENSEMBLE DANCERS . . . PLEASE USE WHAT SHOES YOU HAVE. SHOES WILL BE CHOSEN FOR ALL COMP LEVELS IN THE FALL BASED ON COSTUME COLOR.
